Fabulous Summer

What a great summer this has been. I thought I'd share pictures to tell most of the story.

A beautiful park on the James River ~

My daughter and I took a quick trip north to the Poconos in Pennsylvania to visit cousins. We packed a lot of fun into three days.

This is the original 120 Spring Street in Scranton, PA, the house my dad and his four brothers grew up in. We hadn't planned to go by it, but when I got up Sunday morning and insisted on driving miles out of our way to get sweet tea from Chick-Fil-A ... and nearly there remembered they're not open on Sundays (lol), but then realized we were on Main Street - well, of course I got excited and kept on Main Street until I found Spring Street and the rest is - a photo op! Such fun.

My cousin Ryan happened to be having a graduation/going away to college party for his son on the Saturday evening I was in his town, Waymart. I saw cousins I hadn't seen in 15 years, and met cousins I'd never met before - I loved every minute of it!

New (to me) cousins (aren't they the cutest, they recently became engaged!):

And already known cousins (the older guy is my first cousin Jim):

(Ryan, the party host, and me)

The next day my daughter, Ryan, and I visited nearby cemeteries where our ancestors are buried. Since we've been working this past year on our Roberts family genealogy, it was wonderful to gather dates from the stones in each cemetery.

For our family vacation, we returned to our favorite spot on Lake Gaston, NC. The weather was great and we had a wonderful week with our little boat. The highlight for me was when one of my high school classmates invited us to her cottage and took us on boat rides with rafts behind - so much fun for everyone.

Kathy and I on her front porch. I have to tell you about my hat, I thought I was really something in that hat ... until it blew off into the lake! Someone turned the boat around really fast as I watched my new hat sinking, sinking ... and then my son reached way out and grabbed it - victory! Of course it was drenched, but even if it hadn't been, I was afraid to put it on again, lest it blow into the water.

Note to self: next year a buy straw hat with strings! lol

Til next time  ~

  1. Well. thanks for the great comment, Mary! Glad you like my LR changes. I just love summer, and looks like you had some great times. AT least you got a great picture with that hat! Looks terrific!. We passed through Pennsylvania on a road trip in July. The hills are so beautiful. I would love to spend an extended time to do some antiques shopping there. Happy Summer days! (What's left anyway!)

  2. Hello from central Pennsylvania! Just imagine - I grew up at 301 Spring Street, in a different town! I'm an old lady, re-living through memory my first 18 years at that address, a book in the making which will probably never see print! You have a lovely blog♥♥♥
