All you need is love ... and a little red

It seems that red went out of style a few years ago, but I still find ways to sneak it into my decor ...

especially during February, the Valentine month.

When I first started blogging, a commenter said, "You're a minimalist!" That was a few years back, and as I was new to blogging I didn't know whether to be hurt - or proud :)

I still love simple things. A homemade apron or table runner. A wooden box with Ikea faux greens and an old Valentine's gift bag.

A mantel filled with family pictures and pink faux flowers and wood candle holders. And yes, my red birds from Christmas are still flittering beneath the mantel.

It only takes a little red to keep some of us happy.

  1. Mary, the colors we choose for our homes reflect US! And that is a good thing. I shy away from cookie cutter styles. If we listened to Pantone we would be painting every single year, maybe twice a year! And getting rid of perfectly good furniture for new. I have no time for that!

  2. Beautiful post and lovely home. Red is my favorite color and I'll never live without it . . . those aprons are gorgeous. I want to put one on and bake something :)
    Have a wonderful day!

  3. Red has gone out of style, but I have never been in style so red is one of my go to choices.

I love that red and white heart dish!

  4. I love to see red in a house. I don't have any here because it is not a color my hubby likes but back in the 80's I had a kitchen that had red and white striped pillow ticking wallpaper and EVERYONE loved it--including me.
You may be a minimalist but it looks good to me! xo Diana

  5. I love your fireplace! And I believe if you love a color, than it never goes out of style! A pop of red is always happy.
